It is a mistake, an errant slip of the tongue – Sherlock is talking too quickly and without thought, and when Lestrade interrupts him mid-stream the word comes out unconsciously. The second he realizes, Sherlock goes very quiet. He flushes, which means for Sherlock that his porcelain skin gains a more healthy shade of pink, and quickly excuses himself from the room while Lestrade locks himself in the toilets and cries in a very masculine way. Sherlock has always been his son, but to know that the feeling is reciprocated makes him immeasurably happy.
