Random thought.

With all the actors who've played James Bond over the years, has anyone else speculated that he's a Time Lord?

(Either that or "James Bond" is a passed-on name/title like "The Dread Pirate Roberts. But that doesn't sound likely.)

To the Google Machine! And AO3. ;)

I feel like I've seen that observation somewhere on my f-list before. Where, I couldn't say. :)

I'm pretty sure I have. (Hell, why do I feel like I might have posted it? I know I've had Bond discussions before.)

I know there was a discussion comparing talking about "your Doctor" (the idea of being attached to the one you grew up with) and "your Bond", (I wouldn't know a Doctor if he bit me on the arse, but my Bond is ever and always Brosnan, even though I saw the older ones first and I must have been 10 when I saw Goldeneye)

*nods* But growing up in England is very different there because they are "our" shows and films, for once it's something that we export rather than import. (Funnily enough I was just telling my Canadian housemate how many Americans I've run into who were shocked when I got their references but they didn't get mine. Well, yes, because the media is American-dominated, so the majority of films I remember my classmates talking about are American. So we had to know American slang and things like that.)

We had Bond films on TV, but I don't remember getting chance to watch them until I was older. When I was about 12 I got really into the books. (I have to admit, I love them. I always feel I have to qualify them by pointing out that I do recognise that they're sexist, but I find them fascinating as a time capsule, because they are very much of their time.)

Heh, yeah - and it works on a smaller scale too, if you grow up in Ireland you get a lot of English programs and music, because it's a case of being flooded by the ruling/dominant culture - and because the majority is the majority, they're not aware that they're doing it, they just think of it as "normal".

Oh god yes - I love the Alien films, but looking at this green-text computer that isn't even as advanced as the one I had growing up, and probably has about as much processing power as my mobile phone, and that's The Future... it's funny.

*nods* I think coming from somewhere either out of the way or ignored makes a big, big difference in your worldview.

Heh - the idealised version. No trolls. ;)

...yeah, I really can't imagine that. If it's got humans, it's got innacuracies.

My "assumption" - in so much as I try to make it make sense as a whole - is that it is a passed on thing. Because you have "the new M" (though then in Casino Royale he says "I thought M was a random designator, I had no idea it stood for..")

So to me, James Bond is the cover name, it's the role they recruit these reckless orphan boys to fill.

I have postulated that for quite some time! Though I can't recall if I've ever posted about it here, or just on Doctor Who communities.

Specifically, that Bond is a CIA (Celestial Intervention Agency) agent. And could in fact be all of the Master's missing regenerations.

(I have to admit that I've never much enjoyed the Bond movies I've seen, though, so I can't really take it any farther than that.)
