"Means To An End" by Laine3112 -- Gen case!fic -- Tony & Tim end up doing a covert operation together that goes south because the politics that arranged the assignment gave incomplete & inaccurate information.


"Rule 38A" by Gaby (sinfulslasher) -- Gen cold-case!fic -- In the wake of the Renny Grant case, Gibbs thinks that McGee's ready to lead his first case, and hopefully he'll learn a few things about leadership and teamwork along the way.


"Rictus" by sequitur -- Gen case!fic -- While this is AU in that I don't think the show has ever said what case it was that Gibbs & DiNozzo first met and had DiNozzo working for NCIS shortly thereafter, this story is plausible. Gibbs & DiNozzo work together to capture & neutralize someone who is kidnapping, raping, & killing little girls. (I think all of them are under the age of 6, so if that's going to be something to bother your mom, don't have her read it; although it's very well done & doesn't sensationalize the topic if that makes any sense.)


"The Out of Towners" by OughtaKnowBetter -- Gen!Fic, summary states 'A funny thing happened on the way home from a seminar.' Basically, twist of events has a terrorist group dogging the team on their way home to obtain information they are unknowingly carrying.

"Of Jews And Gentiles" by Sashile is a really good maxi case!fic/Tiva. It was nominated for last year's NCIS Awards.
It has two sequels, "Truth and Covert Lies" and "Consequeces of Love and War", although I haven't read them yet.

I second Rictus, as recommended above. It's such a well-written story, has a fascinating (although definitely disturbing) case, it's got great Gibbs and DiNozzo working together, and has an interesting take on how Tony came to work for Gibbs after bouncing around as a cop for several years. It's a terrific gen piece that I think is so well done, it could have been a novel. In fact, anything by sequitur is is worth a read, in my opinion, at that link or here.

I also enjoyed a piece that is a case fic where Gibbs and the entire team (including Kate, as this takes place before her death on the show) go to New Orleans to track a guy who's bleeding people to death as if he's a vampire. It seems like it would be a supernatural sort of case, which wouldn't necessarily track with the NCIS style, but it stays realistic enough (and the killer IS human) that I found it entertaining and believable. And I usually don't get into stories involving Kate, but I liked the author's take on her in this story, and her relationships with the rest of the team. It's a fun read. Entitled Sanguis Inimicus and written by Lila-Blue.

Kikkimax has an excellent Tony and Tim undercover piece entitled Gigolo. If you think your mom can handle that they're undercover at a brothel (in which there are NO sex scenes, so she doesn't have to worry about that; they're just scouting out the house where the male prostitutes stay and pretending they want to join), she might find it entertaining. It's actually an interesting case, and I think the writer presents a fairly funny take on both McGee and DiNozzo's relationship as NCIS partners. And of course, Gibbs is working the case from the outside with the help of Abby and Ducky (and Ducky is featured in a very funny way, at one point).
